5 Ways to Finding Your Perfect Wedding Dress

Monday, March 30, 2020 | By: Doug Burke Photography

When it comes to planning your wedding, nothing is more stressful for the bride to be than finding her perfect wedding dress. There are endless gowns to choose from (to say the least!) but the most overwhelming part of finding the perfect dress is figuring out what best suits you. Without a plan of what you’re looking for, the task of saying “YES to the dress” can result in endless frustration and a million bridal boutiques!

1. Pinterest Is LIFE

Seeing so many dresses on Pinterest can be overwhelming at first, but it’s the perfect place to start some bridal dress inspiration. Pay attention to what catches your eye, does your heart flutter for that open back vintage beauty?  Scrolling through a few minutes a day can help tremendously.

Make a board and pin all the gowns you really love, then compare all your pins, do the dresses have similarities? Do you tend to pin pretty much the same style dress? If so, you’re getting closer to narrowing down the dress style for YOU!

2. Mood Matters

Imagine the mood and feels of your special day before you start shopping for your perfect dress. Are you a bohemian goddess or a Victorian Queen? Feeling the vibe will help you choose your perfect dress that fits your style.

3. Think Body Shape

Try on a few different style dresses. Maybe it is the fairytale ball gown shape or the WOW sexy fit-and-flow. You won’t know until you try both on.

Pay close attention to how the dress fits your curves, is it accentuating your fabulous features and covering up your insecurities? If your feeling your narrow waist but want to hide your hips, then an A-line shape is your dress!! You have chosen the perfect shape dress when you feel confident and stunning!

4. Color Matters

Just as the style of the dress enhances your shape so does the color/ shade of your dress.

The right color can accentuate and complement your skin tone. If you have fair skin you will want to stay away from bright white as this may wash you out, look for something with a warmer ivory tone. Try on different shades of white or even color to see what looks best on you (make sure you look at yourself in natural light, colors do not look the same in artificial light) and will look amazing in photographs.

5. Be Who you are

Your wedding dress needs to fit your style and personality. Purchasing your dream dress is an emotional decision, so you should shop feeling like the best version of you. That means take a little time before you go to put on your makeup and curl your hair, it will help you envision how you will look on the most important day of your life.

And, on a closing note, if it feels right and you feel like the best version of you then don’t be afraid to scream YES to your perfect dress!

The long search is over, you have found your twin flame dress! Now you have time to figure out the million other details of the first day of the rest of your life.
