Getting That Perfect Headshot for LinkedIn

If you often go online in the hopes of finding a job just right for you, you have to go in with the right tools. For instance, the details on your profile have to be presented in just the right way. Your way of presenting yourself is what matters most in this scenario. Other things matter too, such as your work experience and capability of course. However, the most important first impression you can make is with your photograph!

You may be wondering what your photo has to look like in order to generate the most interest from those surrounding you. Well, look no further—we will let you know exactly what a good LinkedIn headshot looks like.

Look like Yourself

A portrait photograph captures your face straight on, so there is little room for makeup or touchups in post-production since it would become too obvious. While some experienced headshot photographer may touch up your photo slightly taking care of blemishes here and there, make sure you let them know that you want to look like yourself. If a headshot hides everything from your imperfections to your reality, it wouldn’t be ‘you’! Make sure you look like yourself in your headshot.

High Res Photo

Another important characteristic of a portrait photograph is its quality. If the photo is so grainy that your face is blurred behind pixels, it may not be a good pick for your LinkedIn. Go for a picture that clearly displays your full face and be confident about showing it to the world!

A Solo Photo

A mistake many people make is including another person in their profile photo. It doesn’t matter if the person is Jeff Bezos, if it is your profile, it only needs to show your face. A solo headshot puts the focus on you as it should! Your face should take up at least 60% of the frame too, so make sure your headshot photographer knows what they are doing!

Expressions

Many people wonder if they should smile in their headshots. Well, unless there is a particular reason why you shouldn’t, a small smile only adds to your aura. A smiling person has a great impact on employers’ minds and presents you as an easy-going and nice person. Your LinkedIn can’t feature you looking grumpy or angry; that’s not the right corporate attitude!

Get it Professionally Taken

Whatever everyone else might say, we would insist on getting your headshots taken professionally. Not only does the photographer provide you with high-res images that make you look like yourself, but professionals know how to direct the entire shoot and make you feel at ease during the process!
