Getting the Boys Together for the Photos

Any parent with young sons knows that it’s not the easiest task getting the boys together for the photos. They’re almost always looking to mess around and have fun, pulling each other’s leg (sometimes, literally), and your photographer will just have to wait while you try to get them to pose for the camera. Well, thankfully, there are some ways to make this process a little easier and quicker. This article quickly explores how you can get your boys together to pose for a memorable photo or collection of photos.

Photographers who want to capture excellent family photos or family members who plan to take pictures of each other can benefit from this information. So, let’s get into it!

Bribe the Boys

This tip may sound like a bad idea but promising your children or the children of your clients something favorable if they pose for the photos. So, mothers can bribe their children with their favorite snack or extra play time, or the chance to sleep 30 minutes beyond their bedtime. Know what your boys like, and bribe them with that.

Plan the Photographs with the Boys

One of the best ways of getting the boys together for the photos is to make them a part of the planning process. They are likely to participate in something that they helped plan. So, ask them their ideas, and create a photography session that appeals to them as much as you. The more restrictive you (or the parents of your clients) are with their ideas, the harder it will be to get them to pose.

Be Smart with What Time to Shoot

It’s best to plan your photoshoot on a day when you have no plans or minor plans. You don’t want to be rushing from one place to another to get your photos. Your family members are all going to be tired and irritable, and that can make it harder for them to pose for the photos.

Make Sure Everyone Is Fed and Hydrated

It’s going to be a lot harder to get everyone to pose when they are hungry and thirsty. They’re likely to be irritable and unwilling to stay still and pose for the photos. So, make sure that the photoshoot occurs after everyone has eaten their meals. People are also likely to be full of energy to get the photoshoot done. You should note that posing for photoshoots can be tiring.

Final Thoughts

As photographers, getting the boys together for the photos can be a tough task. So, always guide your clients according to the tips mentioned below. And families, be sure that you plan your photoshoots well because it can be a lot easier with some good prep.

If you’re looking for some excellent family photos, we at Doug Burke Photography can help you get comfortable in your skin and loosen up so that your family photos look natural and completely represent you as individuals and as a unit.
