How to Look More Professional for Your Corporate Headshots

When it comes to getting your corporate headshots right, there are five key elements that you must consider: Outfit, grooming, posture, facial expression, and location. Your headshot represents your personal brand, and it’s important to ensure your image reflects the level of professionalism you wish to portray.

Let’s take a closer look at the five elements:

  1.      Outfit: Choose an appropriate outfit for the occasion, which in this case is typically business formal. Wear clothing that is clean, pressed, and has neutral colors like navy blue, gray or black. Avoid wearing flashy accessories or anything too tight-fitting, as these will be distracting in the photos.

  1.      Grooming: Make sure your hair is neatly combed and styled before taking pictures. For women, a minimal makeup look with natural colors is best. Trimming your fingernails and applying a moisturizer before the shoot are also good ideas.

  1.      Posture: Good posture is essential for looking professional in photos. Stand up straight, keep your chin up and shoulders back to create an open stance that exudes confidence.

  1.      Facial Expression: While smiling is usually a good look for corporate headshots, it’s important to keep your expression neutral. Avoid any extreme facial expressions, as these can be too distracting.

  1.      Location: In most cases, you will want to take your corporate headshots indoors in a professional setting such as an office or conference room. If possible, have the photographer set up a backdrop behind you to create more of a studio-like atmosphere. This will help ensure that the background isn’t too distracting and takes away from your professional look.

A few other things you need to keep in mind include:

Wear Glasses: If you wear glasses, ensure they are clean and free of any smudges before taking pictures.

Lighting: Good lighting is key to getting great corporate headshots. Ensure the photographer has plenty of light in the room or space where you will be shooting.

Stay Loose: Be sure to take a few moments to relax and remember to breathe before each shot. Taking a few deep breaths can help keep you relaxed so that your expressions look natural in the photos.

Camera Height: The photographer should position the camera at your eye level so that your headshots look natural and not distorted.

Don’t Rush: If the portraits are being taken of every employee in the company, it often happens that the photographer rushes the shoot. Make sure you have booked a professional for at least 3 hours to ensure everyone’s photo gets taken the way they want.

Show Your Best Side: Everyone has a “good side” when it comes to taking pictures. Have the photographer take multiple shots of each pose so you can find your best angle and make sure you look your best in the photos.

With these five key elements in mind, you can be sure that your corporate headshots will be successful. Remember to consider the other tips as well for taking the best possible photos.

Take your time and be sure you are comfortable with the photographer before starting. This will help ensure that you have a natural expression that looks professional and confident in your headshots.
