How To Make Family Formals Great on Your Wedding Day

Hey there, future newlyweds! Your big day is approaching, and one of the most important parts is capturing beautiful family photos. Family formals are a chance to gather your loved ones for memorable portraits. But how can you make them great? Don't worry, we've got you covered with some helpful tips!

Plan Ahead:

First things first, make a list of all the family groupings you want to capture (Sample List Below). Think about immediate family, grandparents, aunts, uncles, and even special friends. Provide this list to your photographer to ensure they know what shots you're looking for. This way, you won't forget anyone important!

Communicate Clearly:

It's crucial to let your family members know when and where the family formals will take place. Talk to them in advance and give them a schedule of the day's events. Stress the importance of being on time and ready for the photos. Good communication will help everyone be prepared and avoid any confusion. Having the officiant make an announcement right after the ceremony, before everyone gets up to leave is a great last reminder.

Enlist Help:

On the wedding day, designate a trusted friend or family member to gather the required people for each photo. This person can assist the photographer by helping to organize and arrange the groups. They should be familiar with both sides of the family, making it easier to find everyone quickly. Having an extra set of hands will ensure things run smoothly and efficiently.

Be Patient:

Family formals can take time, so it's important to be patient. Some relatives may get caught up in the excitement and wander off, while others might need extra time to join the group. Stay calm, smile, and remember that this is a joyous occasion. Take breaks between shots to keep everyone energized and relaxed. On a typical wedding day we spend about 30 minutes getting family photos.

Capture Special Moments:

Don't forget to include some special moments in your family formals. Whether it's a photo with your childhood best friend or a group shot with your godparents, think beyond traditional groupings. These unique moments will add depth and meaning to your photo collection.

Family formals are a significant part of your wedding day, capturing cherished memories with your loved ones. By planning ahead, communicating effectively, enlisting help, being patient, and capturing special moments, you can ensure that your family formals are great! So, relax, smile, and enjoy this precious time with your family.

Here is a sample list of groups you may want to capture.
