Ideas for Christmas Family Photos

Tired of sending the same postcard to your entire family at Christmas? Maybe you could try taking some new, Xmas themed ones this time around. Holidays are for the family—and nothing speaks the language of love better than spending a cozy Christmas holiday with family. Here are some ideas you can look into.

With the Xmas Tree!

The first, and the most obvious, idea is getting photographed near your Christmas tree. We all have memories of decorating the tree with our loved ones and finding neatly wrapped presents under it. Why not make those memories immortal by getting your family portrait taken next to the tree? You can get the tree in the background so your family can have center stage. There’s nothing more Christmassy than baubles and lights!

In Themed Outfits

The colors of Christmas are red and green, yes. But you can get a little more creative with that. You don’t have to wear the stereotypical Santa hat for the Xmas feel—reindeer ears will work too! If you have young kids, some fun Christmas-themed ideas from Pinterest will not go amiss.

Green and red can be replaced by blue or gray flannel if you are a family of sober tastes.

Baking Traditions

Who doesn’t think of sugar cookies when the Christmas hymns start playing all around? Most families have their own grandma’s secret recipe for baked goods. If your house smells like a bakery around Christmas time, you can get your family portraits taken in the kitchen! Show off your family bond while paying homage to the cookies that keep you waiting all year.

Christmas Eve

You could also give your picture the look of Christmas Eve. Kids staying up late in their jammies while the adults treat themselves to some eggnog—it is the classic Christmas aesthetic. Ask your photographer how to incorporate more elements of the Eve in your family photograph.

Out in the Big City

When December rolls around, entire cities are filled with lights, colors, and magic. Instead of taking your family photos indoors like every other time, try doing a family photo walk around the town square. You can pose with the different Christmas shop displays and get some fresh air with your favorite ones.

In Winter Gear

Get your fur coats and your beanies. Winter clothes make people look fluffy, warm, and happy. Why not get your entire family to mix and match their winter outfits? Winter weather and the festive season go hand in hand.

In just a few, you will witness the lands filling up with snow and Santa’s reindeers will be on their way. If you’re looking for a family portrait photographer in Greensboro and surrounding areas, Doug Burke has you covered. Reach out to us at 336.486.9932 for a perfectly magical portrait that your family can cherish for years.

Merry Christmas!
