Modern Family Portraits – Following the Latest Trends

Photographers are looking for innovative and new ways to capture their audience. Family portraits have evolved from the basic pictures with the parents standing in the back and children in the front at military attention to funky poses and laughter instead of cheesy smiles.

New Year is fast approaching, and we have dug up some famous family portrait trends that will allow you to make a memorable album. No need for any props because these poses speak for themselves!

Generational Photos

How many people have you got in your family? If your great-granddad or grandma is still around, get the camera ready because it’s time to show where your father came from and his father came from. This photo trend involves standing in line, starting from the older generation and going all the way down to Gen Z.

This is an interesting and fun way to highlight your family’s generation stretch and gap. Moreover, you can show these photos to your children and tell them about the family lineage.

Milestone Shots

Today, milestone photos come under family portraits. This trend shows no sign of disappearing. Who wouldn’t want to show how far they have come? It starts with a newborn shoot and proceeds to capture every birthday, the first day of Kindergarten, and all achievements.

Some parents like to go the extra mile and even celebrate with candid photos, such as the first step, trying solids for the first time, dad changing the diaper, etc.

Candid Interaction

Those stiff poses your parents used to force you into are no longer a part of the family portraits. Remember when your mother used to say, “Five more minutes, and then everyone gets ice cream.” Once the picture was taken, all hell would break loose. The bribe would work perfectly, but you ended up with bleh pictures.

Today, candid is the name of the game. Photographers like to capture genuine interactions between parents and children. Sometimes, all it takes is a joke or telling a funny story about your kid.

The Before and After

This is one of the popular trends seen on TikTok nowadays. The before and after portrait is a sweet way to recreate old memories. It involves wearing the same clothes and positioning yourself in the same way you were in the old picture. These pictures make for some hilarious portraits and are a great addition to your family album.

Photographers encourage clients to try bright hues because they add a playful element to the picture. While props and backdrops are common, another editing trick making the rounds is design overlays. There are dozens of filters that give the picture a creative look.

Family portraits are all about having fun. So, try out these trends and come up with new ones if you can.
