Tips for Family Portraits

The best tips and tricks for family portraits can help you to take memorable family photos that you can be proud of.

Year after year, you can take the best family portraits that will constitute a remarkable series.

Tripod Stand

The tripod stand can help you to take perfect family portraits from the best angles. The tripod provides a sturdy base from which you can take accurate photos with minimal unwanted movement of the camera.

Consistent Exposure

Make sure that the light exposure is consistent. Make sure that you select the right mode for your camera so that it does not change the aperture opening with each shot.

Arrange Subjects

Make sure that subjects are standing correctly. Standing in a straight line can work but you will want something different for the best family portraits.

Stagger your subjects by keeping some seated while others remain in standing position. This will create a more dynamic looking family portrait.

If pictures are taken outside, the kids can sit on the grass. Otherwise, you will need seats or stools.

Natural Posture

Some people look stiff and awkward if they have to stand straight. You can change that into a much more natural posture by having them stand in other ways. For example, you can have some subjects lean on the wall. They can even lean on each other for more intimate and friendlier photos with lots of love.

Females can keep their hands on their hips and pose sideways. Gents can stand with one foot crossing the other for a more flexible pose.

Just go for more relaxed poses that make your subjects look good.

Play With Kids

Yes, you should play with kids and make it a goofy fun-filled session. This is much better than forcing them to smile.

They will smile more naturally and will be more willing to take natural lovely photos. Their expression will be completely natural when they are in a good mood and elated.
