Try the “When We Were Young” to “Today” Photo Trend

Are you bored of the same old kind of themes for photoshoots? Would you like to add a unique theme to your collection? Try going with a ‘Then and Now theme. This is an exciting photoshoot as there are many ways to do this, and it’s a lot of fun to do them too!

What Is Retrograde Photography?

Retrograde photography is the art of reshooting old photos of the same places in the modern day as close to the original photo as possible. The same concept can be applied in a then-and-now photoshoot. The idea is to replicate the same photograph as accurately as possible so you can see the difference between then and now.

Different Ideas To Shoot

you can make it a fun activity for the whole family where you can take out old albums and choose your favorite photo from the lot. Choose a photo that is clear and one that you can replicate. Here are some ideas to shoot this photograph:

Same Location

If your chosen photograph was shot at a popular location during your travels, and you plan to visit the exact location, then you can create a nostalgic retrograde photograph. You can pose similarly and try to capture the exact frame. If there is a tree in the photo that is still there or an old building, it can add to the photograph.

Same Outfit

You will unlikely have the same outfit you wore in your old photograph or would still fit into it. But if by any chance you still have it hiding in your closet somewhere and by some miracle you do fit into it, then it would make for a fantastic ‘then and now’ photograph. You could also get a similar color if you don’t have the exact outfit and wear that instead to recreate the same picture.

Same Pose

If you are making a peace sign with your fingers or a thumbs up, you can recreate that in your photoshoot to give a similar effect. If you were making a funny face, you could make that again. It is hilarious looking at all the changes that have occurred over the years. You may not be as fit as before, or have as much hair on your head, but your facial expressions will always remain the same!

The Final Word

This is a fantastic idea for a photo shoot with a group of friends or your partner of many years. You may have taken a picture when you were dating, and you can recreate that after many years for a ‘when we were young’ photo shoot. For a photo shoot of this theme or any other theme you might have, contact Dough Burke Photography to take care of your photo shoot so you can preserve your memories together. You frame the two together, showing a before and after, and mention the dates. Not only does the final photograph turn out fantastic, but it is also a fun activity recreating the photo.
