Why Follow the Headshot Trend and Stay Up to Date

An actor’s headshot is arguably one of the most critical marketing components, especially when starting out. It’s the first impression that you make on a casting director, giving them a glimpse into what you look like and what potential roles you may fit into. There are various headshot trends that crop up, and many of them may not be worth considering because many casting directors are looking for a portrait that represents you well. Nevertheless, there are some trends that may be worth looking into. Perhaps one can even say that using a headshot is a trend in itself. In any case, this article helps explain why to follow the headshot trend so that you can stay up to date with your position as a potential actor for hire.

Headshot Trends

Here are some headshot trends that you should consider. These can help elevate your portraits without making them look over the top.

  •          Straight angles with no tilted shots
  •          Blurred backgrounds
  •          Lightly colored backgrounds
  •          Outdoor backdrops with no distractive objects present
  •          Focus on you, the actor
  •          Avoiding leaning your hands or arms against something
  •          Soft lighting with no harsh shadows
  •          Shot at eye level
  •          All colors should pop and not look washed out
  •          Makeup should be natural, with the focus being drawn toward the eyes

Update Your Headshot Only When Necessary

Something to keep in mind about updating your headshot is that you don’t need to do it frequently. A good headshot captured by a professional photographer takes money. In addition to that, it also takes time and effort to plan and execute the photoshoot with the right wardrobe. Therefore, the only time you should consider updating your headshot is when you feel like you’re changing your look.

What you must understand about actor headshots is that they are meant to represent you as an artist and showcase you as a potential candidate for specific roles, depending on the way you’re dressing or your overall style and demeanor. Therefore, you should only change your headshot when that whole look changes drastically. It’s also usually a good idea to click headshots with two or more looks that are authentic to you so that you can help showcase greater versatility based on the roles you’re applying for. In addition to that, you also won’t need to spend time, effort, and money on arranging another photo shoot for a different look.

Final Thoughts

Hopefully, this article shows you why to follow the headshot trend and use some of the useful trends mentioned above. It’s always a good idea to invest in your photoshoot because it can help you land jobs in the long term, helping make that investment worth it.
